How much do we have to take from Alberto Gonzalez

Now the FBI Director is contradicting Gonzalez:

“The discussion was on a national NSA program that has been much discussed, yes,” Mueller responded.

The NSA, or National Security Agency, runs the program that eavesdropped on terror suspects in the United States, without court approval, until last January, when the program was put under the authority of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court.

On Tuesday, Gonzales repeatedly and emphatically denied that the dispute was about the terrorist surveillance program.

That’s not what you want to hear about your Attorney General.  Of course you don’t want to hear this either:

“We ask that you immediately appoint an independent special counsel from outside the Department of Justice to determine whether Attorney General Gonzales may have misled Congress or perjured himself in testimony before Congress,” four Democratic senators wrote in a letter Wednesday.

Why hasn’t he resigned?  It just keeps adding up.

Plus even a Rebublican Senator doesn’t believe him.

Sen. Arlen Specter, the top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, accompanied Bush on an Air Force One on a trip to Philadelphia. At a hearing on Tuesday, the Pennsylvania Republican had told Gonzales, “I do not find your testimony credible, candidly.”

The senator Thursday that Bush was sticking by Gonzales out of personal loyalty, despite the attorney general’s deteriorating support on Capitol Hill. “The hearing two days ago was devastating (for Gonzales). But so was the hearing before that and so was the hearing before that,” Specter said.

I’d say he’s just digging himself a deeper hole….but someone already did.

“Once again he’s making up something to protect himself and creating situations that never happened,” Rockefeller said, adding that “based on what I know about it, I’d have to say” Gonzales has committed perjury.

Much of Gonzales’ time was spent telling the committee he couldn’t remember, wasn’t up to date or wasn’t at liberty to discuss the details on everything from the department’s controversial settlement with the makers of OxyContin, a drug believed responsible for dozens of deaths, and his consideration of death penalty cases to his involvement in drafting U.S. torture guidelines while working at the White House and why he apparently lied to a Senate panel over President George W. Bush’s warrantless wiretapping programs.

And finally, here’s a clip of the Daily Show with John Stewart if you want to see him speak…warning: stupid commercial a the beginning.

Now don’t give me any crap about ‘all politicians lie” He is the Attorney General.  He doesn’t get a pass.  I mean does anyone trust this guy besides Bush?  Does he even have any real people supporting him…or are they just Republican supporters?
