Bill Callahan’s (Smog) new CD

Just heard his new CD, Woke on a Whaleheart, a few days ago.  really good for those who are fans of Bill Callahan and  Smog

Here’s a review:

Like pal and labelmate Will Oldham, Bill Callahan has spent much of the last decade shrouded in quasi-anonymity, recording under the guise of Smog, or most recently, (smog). Appropriately, Woke on a Whaleheart, Callahan’s first release under his birth name, is also his least explicitly experimental. Anchored by Callahan’s deep, loping pipes and rich string arrangements courtesy of Royal Trux’s Neil Michael Hagerty (who also co-produced), the album is a relatively straightforward collage of country, folk, and classic Austin indie.
